Feeling Good Through Helping Others
The Office of Community Service offers the following programs and services to the Georgia Tech Community:
  • Referrals to community agencies and schools and assistance in finding a volunteer opportunity through the MOVE Office located on the second floor of the Student Center
  • Sixteen student coordinated service projects and programs through the Mobilizing Opportunities for Volunteer Experience (MOVE) Student Organization (See: www.move.gatech.edu for more information)
  • MOVE includes four tutoring and mentoring programs: Techwood Tutorial Project (TTP) http://cyberbuzz.gatech.edu/ttp/, Elementary School; Partners in Interactive Education (PIE), Middle School; Tech Enriching Atlanta Community High schools (TEACH), High School; and Best Buddies, developmentally disabled adults
  • Leadership development opportunities as a collaborative member of the Student Activities and Leadership Team (SALT)
  • Annual “Volunteer Fair” where community agencies and student organizations highlight their volunteer opportunities on Skiles Walkway (Fall Semester)
  • ÿ “Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week:” educational presentations and direct service opportunities (November)
  • Five campus-wide Blood Drives co-sponsored by the American Red Cross (Back to school, Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer)
  • Student Internships through the Neighborhood Development Internship Project: a collaboration sponsored by the United Way and the Community Housing Resource Center
  • Weekly email listserv communicating upcoming service projects on-campus and in the community (Sign up by emailing: move@gatech.edu)
The Office of Community Service provides these services to faculty members:
  • Placement of students in community agencies and schools
  • Assistance in the development of service-learning course syllabi
  • Access to the American Association for Higher Education's Series on Service-Learning in the Disciplines and other resources
  • Contacts for developing partnerships with community agencies
