Lead the Way!
Georgia Tech has a particular responsibility to develop graduates who are visionary and principled leaders as well as highly skilled professionals. Because of the strong and continuing impact of technology on all our lives, our nation must rely increasingly on technologically sophisticated individuals who are equipped and prepared to lead and work with people with a wide variety of educational backgrounds. Such leaders must be prepared to use their technological skills for the common good, not simply for personal gain.

Georgia Tech is committed to giving every student many opportunities to enhance their leadership skills before they graduate. Recently, employers of Georgia Tech graduates told Georgia Tech that although Tech graduates have top abilities technically, they lack the social aspect needed to relay their work to others.

Leadership skills are gained through many different experiences or avenues. Some students choose to get involved in a student organization, some students learn leadership through an on-campus job, other students learn leadership through their co-op job or internship and still others learn leadership through their classes and projects assigned by their professors. Regardless of the avenue a student takes in experiencing leadership, Georgia Tech feels that any student can gain leadership experience during their Tech career and strives to offer many different leadership opportunities for the diverse student population.

Georgia Tech has identified six components of leadership for our students:

Self Awareness
The process of exploring who we are and what we are becoming

Communication Skills
The ability to say and write what we mean, simply and powerfully

Service Orientation
The habit of working for others

Teamwork in Diverse Groups
Skills to accomplish common goals through working with others from a variety of experiences

Ethics and Integrity
A commitment to think carefully about the public good and one’s own values when we act

Vision
A sense of the future and its possibilities
