Advisor Information

All
Chartered Organizations Must Have an Advisor who will:
- Give
advice to students when called upon
- Provide continuity from year to year
in the face of frequent officer turnover
- Serve as a role model in the
techniques and responsibilities of a good leader
- Coach officers in principles
of good organizational and administrative skills
- Clarify leader and group
perceptions of advisor involvement
- Establish a regular working relationship
with group leaders
- Observe officer leadership style
- Sign off on
paperwork that requires an advisors signature
- Attend meetings when requested
Officer
Responsibilities to Advisor
- Keep advisor informed
as to the functioning of committees and projects.
- Inform advisors of all
contacts with outside groups
- Seek advisor's opinion on matters of Institute
policy
- Inform advisor of any problem situations
- Discuss with advisor
any complaints with his/her performance as the advisor
- Recognize the personal
time and energy the advisors puts into the organization
- Keep records neat
and orderly
- Keep advisor informed of all meetings
- Give advisors
copies of all minutes, financial paperwork, and correspondence
- Meet regularly
with advisor
You
can help your advisor by:

- Keeping them informed of your group's
plans and problems
- Work out tentative solutions to problems and situations
before you go to them
- Observe lines of responsibility. Don't avoid them
or go over their heads.
- Take the time to schedule regular meeting times
with your advisor.
- Invite them to all activities
- Make them feel
at home
- Show appreciation of their service through a letter, comments
at meetings, nominate them for campus awards.
- Ask their advice. Use their
experience and expertise.
- Review shier feelings and concerns
