The Office of the Dean of Students
provides a number of services to assist students with
medical, academic, financial, and personal emergencies.
To access these services, students or their families should
notify the Office of the Dean of Students at (404)894-6367.
Notification of Instructors:
The Office of the Dean of Students will notify students’
instructors of absences of two days or more. Notifications
are e-mailed to each instructor with general information,
such as “medical,” explaining the absence.
Students are responsible for contacting individual instructors
to arrange make-up work. Determination of excused absences
is left to the instructor. Personal
Counseling Referrals:
The Office of the Dean of Students can contact, on behalf
of the student, Counseling Center, Women’s Resource
Center, Health Center and/or other community services
for assistance in arranging emotional or personal counseling
support. Assistance
in Contacting Roommates:
The Office of the Dean of Students will contact student’s
roommates to inform the, in general, of a student’s
absence from the room or apartment.
Accommodations for Temporary and/or Permanent Disabilities:
Access Disabled Assistance Program for Tech Students (A.D.A.P.T.S.)
The Office of the Dean of Students can assist students
in arranging for academic accommodations and extracurricular
activity. For students living on campus, A.D.A.P.T.S.
can contact the Department of Housing for assistance in
arranging accessible housing. Off-campus students can
work with A.D.A.P.T.S. for assistance and advocacy in
arranging accommodations in their off-campus housing.
Academic Referrals:
Students often need some outside assistance in making
decisions about continuing courses, incompletes, refund
schedules and deadlines. The Office of the Dean of Students
can provide this information and contact the student’s
faculty and/or major department to get more specific information
to the student. Withdrawing
From School:
Some students find that due to the length of their recovery
and impact of their personal emergency and/or missed classes,
they are unable to make-up the missed work. In these cases,
students may decide to withdraw from school. The Office
of the Dean of Students can assist students with withdrawal
procedures and help coordinate resulting housing issues. |
